Is it ok to use the furniture I already own to present my home for sale?

In this post, Sarah Toland and Belinda Woolrych discuss if it is ok to use the existing furniture you already own to present your home for sale.

Yes, it is okay but you need to know if the sale will work best with it and is it really helpful for you in the medium term to long run. Below are some questions you to ask yourself:

  • Am I going to be able to use this furniture in my next home?
  • Does it align with the style of this house or my next house, and in particular the demographics of the area I’m selling in?
  • Will it work for the target market that I’m selling my home to, for example are we targeting a younger audience?, are we targeting a family?

There’s an additional opportunity here for downsizers too. Downsizers are often going somewhere smaller, so it’s worth considering moving some furniture on now.  I recommend it is worth doing before the sale because you’re only going to have to deal with your old furniture afterwards anyway.  Therefore you can free yourself of furniture you don’t need, hire a contemporary floor plan of furniture and also purchase furniture that you really want for your new home.

Think about “Am I really going to be needing this furniture now?  I’m going to be moving out in two to three months time”.
